Colleb is an exclusive college student matching app that helps students connect with like-minded collaborators beyond their immediate circle based on personality and skills. By prioritizing compatibility, students can review others' portfolios who have similar tastes, relevant skills for a project, and availability to simplify the recruiting process.

SITUATION

The design team finished the first draft of the platform based on the data from user research, but there was a lack of accessibility and usability.

DESIGN GOAL

To identify and refine design elements that hinder usability and accessibility.

DESIGN GOAL

To create an intuitive interface that enables users to spend less time checking other people's portfolios.

DESIGN PROBLEM–SOLUTION

1. Enhanced accessibility

I identified an accessibility issue when checking the contrast ratio. To improve accessibility, I ensured that the color combination met the required 3:1 ratio for UI components and graphics. Consequently, I changed the red color to white to adhere to the necessary ratio for WCAG Conformance.

2. Increased the prioritization for CTA buttons

Many of the CTA (Call to Action) buttons had the same color, making it difficult to identify the intended priority that the platform wants users to click on. Therefore, I assigned different colors to distinguish the application statuses, and I changed some minor buttons to black to reduce confusion.

3. Upgraded UI components to improve usability

The existing design only showed a brief overview of each screen, making it hard to understand how each step is connected to the other. Therefore, I refined UI components and designed the missing UI components, such as a dropdown menu.

Also, I added progress bar in order for users to check the status easily.

TAKEAWAY

Accessibility, beyond consistency

To create a product with other designers, it's really important to keep consistency throughout the platform.

Sometimes, we only focus on visuals and target audience without considering accessibility.
